Walking Along

Dusty fields and weathered hills
And forests you once chanced upon
Silent towns and empty streets
And memories of days bygone

All the mountains that you climbed
And all the things you tried in vain
All the kind words and the taunts
That now bring neither joy nor pain

You walk on for a better reason
Wiser now with better sense
And the past is cast away
Into the darkness of distance
